Fear of failure has condemned many a people to a life of inaction, and if ever they acted they performed with a fear of losing. This is that group of people who do not play to win but they play not to lose. They put their fear in front of them and all they do is guided by fear.
Fear comes in various packages; fear of failure, fear of success, fear of losing, fear of getting, fear of the unknown, the list is endless. Every business owner is not entirely certain of the outcome of their business ventures. All of us do not know what tomorrow holds hence there is an element of fear in us. However, that fear should not have dominance over the courage to execute.
In the parable of the talents there were three servants who all received capital. Two servants brought hundred percent return on investment. Remember they were not certain of the returns which means there was an element of fear but they acted in the face of the uncertainty. The other one with one talent sacrificed the noblest parts of his humanity on the altar of fear and was labelled “wicked and slothful servant.”
If you do not want to face failure there is one sure way and that is, by doing nothing, having nothing and certainly becoming nothing. Failure is not failure until you start blaming others. Napoleon Hill said that failure is only failure until you believe it in your mind. You are the only one with the final endorsement on your status regarding failure.
At times when confronted by fear you need to look at your fear and look at your goal. If your fear is more important than your goal then go the fear route. For example you may have children to send to school and need to work your business to raise that money. Look at the fear and see if it is more important than your children’s education.
I will grapple with you to lose your fear. Let me get Henry Ford to help me: This is what he said, “Obstacles are those frightful things you see when you take your eyes off your goals.”
Difficulties and challenges are there along the way but they should not steal your focus. They have always been and will be there but they should not retard your wheels of progress. What motion can take place without friction?
We all have our fears but that fear should be rendered powerless by acting in accordance with our dreams and our plans. I like the way the late icon, Nelson Mandela put it across. “I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.”
What is your lofty dream? Go ahead and execute. Look at your fear in the eyes and tell it, “I’m going to act in spite of your menacing antics.”
