When we go through school, we are rarely taught the art of dreaming about our future. Students leave school or college with no clue as to who they want to be and what they want to achieve in life; all they are concerned with is landing a good job in whatever field and be able to look after their families, nothing more. No wonder many leave school with good grades but become failures in life or wait for fate to decide their destinies.
Most of us could be found in that kind of dilemma but the good news is that it is not too late. One day I was chatting with my aunt in her late fifties and she was vowing that she would not allow herself to get to age sixty before setting up a meaningful venture. It then dawned on me that if someone is still considering herself young and looking forward to a good start by age sixty, then me and my colleagues in our early and late thirties or even forties still have a good chance to reconsider the direction of our lives.
If you could sit down, have meetings with yourself and be able to give answers to some tough questions from yourself, do you think that will make a difference in the results that you are getting? I bet it makes. You will be able to come up with visions and dreams that will compel you to live purposefully.
There are a lot of people who should be business owners, providing employment to thousands of people but are clustering Human Resources managers’ offices with their CVs, “thereby wishing to beg to apply” for employment. Why is that so? They could not envision their future.
I was talking to one young man the other day and he was complaining that he cannot plan on anything looking at the paltry salary that he was earning. His argument was that if his employer could agree to pay him a reasonable salary then he could be able to come up with a better plan for his life. After an hour long discussion with him he ended up agreeing that if he had a good plan for his life, the direction of his life could be completely different.
Most times we fail because of a lack of vision for our lives. When you have a vision for the future, cherish it and become a slave to it. Once you reach a stage where it becomes a part of you, the vision will as certainly as night follows day, connect with you from its present future. For your vision is present there in the unforeseen future. A link becomes established between your vision in the future and yourself here in the present. The vision will start to work in mysterious ways just to have an encounter with you. That is the best of reasons why people who have visions for great things even when they are circumstantially opposed to what they envision, they finally enjoy the fulfilment of their dreams.
Going through autobiographies of some great people who lived on this planet, it is unimaginable trying to marry their initial circumstances to their spectacular achievements. What could have made all the achievements possible? The power of the vision. Vision has a certain power of pulling its owner towards it. The vision connects with the dreamer which best illustrates why some people despite going through excruciating pain and hurdles never quit or give up on their dreams; they would have connected with their dreams and no amount of difficulty can divorce them from their vision. This means that when encountered by difficulties while moving towards fulfilling your dreams, make sure your sight is not so bleared as to distort your vision.
Ensure your ability to see your vision clearly and keep focussed on it. Henry Ford said, “Obstacles are those frightful things you see when you take your eyes off your goals”. What an awesome way to put it all across!
Maintain a clear vision of your future and we will both reach our zenith!
